All in
to vote
01
DESIGN CHALLENGE
It seems that college students have gradually been losing interest in voting over time. In order to encourage more newly eligible voters to vote, we need an outstanding social media post that reminds them of their right to vote, because voting as a student is the first step to being a lifelong voter.
02
REASEARCH
I first started with some research to understand why newly eligible voters are less interested in voting(only 27% of them voted in 2023). After reading several articles and reports, I identified three main reasons :
They need a little encouragement and a reminder! Teenagers aged 18-25 often have diverse tastes in art, but two categories seem to be particularly popular :
Grunge
2. Lack of Interest or Knowledge: Some newly eligible voters might feel uninformed about the candidates or issues.
3. Feeling of Powerlessness: Many young voters believe that their vote won't make a difference, especially if they live in areas where one political party is dominant.
1. Inconvenience: A complicated registration process can be confusing and overwhelming.

APPROACH & IDEATIONS
Grunge art is popular among young people due to its raw, unpolished, and chaotic visuals, which appeal to those drawn to its edgy aesthetic. It's also widely used in games, so my first idea was to mimic this style to resonate with young audiences.
My second idea was to explore vintage collage art, which often incorporates retro images, old photos, and vibrant colors. This authentic and timeless style is very popular among young people.
DIRECTION 01
"Your vote is never redundant ! "
DIRECTION 02
“It takes just a little effort!”

Many young voters believe their votes won't make a difference, but in reality, every vote counts, and even small numbers can add up.
Conveying the message effectively is important, so I made the text the main element and used high-visibility colors that fit a modern aesthetic, combined with game-like grunge textures.
04
During my research, I found that young people often believe that voting involves a complicated registration process. However, it's actually quite simple and takes just a small effort!
This concept will focus on the act of voting. I’ll use collage as the base style and animate the voting hands. The design will incorporate retro textures and collages, combined with partial graphic animation.
DEVELOPMENT

Direction 1 was selected! However, some details still need to be revised. First, since this design will be presented on a mobile phone, font size is crucial. In version 1, the font is clearly too small. Second, the phrase 'All in to vote' should not appear in the call to action. Finally, I reduced the number of color blocks in the image to better highlight the text, which is the main focus.

ANIMATIONS
1st pass animation
After discussing it with my creative director, we realized that the timing and pacing felt a bit off. Instead of having everything fade or animate in the same way and at the same time, it would be better to animate the text to more effectively emphasize certain words.
2nd pass animation
In the second pass, I adjusted the order in which the text appeared on the screen to emphasize the most important information and slightly extended the duration it remained visible. Additionally, I used different fonts to make the design more engaging.

TECHNICAL EXECUTION
The animation process for this project was straightforward, primarily involving text animation tracking. Additionally, I added relevant expressions to the background textures.
To create the stretching effect for the text, I used a path animation and added keyframes for the position, along with ease-in and ease-out transitions.

FINAL RESULTS & MOCKUP

In summary, this was a two-week project, and I found it to be a good opportunity to adapt to a fast-paced workflow.
